Reflections - Asking for Help

As someone who has dedicated my career to helping others feel better and get more out of life, it’s hard to watch people struggle to take that crucial step to get the support they need. One of the most common things I see is that because of all the endless information available, many people think they can do it alone. But all the information only leads to one thing: overwhelm. We have meal plans, guides, and tips available, but it’s the commitment to the process, the dedication of time, and the ongoing support that truly create lasting change, not more information.

Healing complex gut conditions requires more than a few appointments, a list of instructions, and endless food diaries. This work is not about overwhelming you with more to do. My role is to cut through the noise, help you make manageable adjustments, and identify the most meaningful and impactful step for your body right now. Very often, progress comes from doing less, not more.

This is not about signing your life away to focus on your health. It is about having an experienced practitioner in your corner who helps you settle, recognises the most significant influences on your symptoms, and holds steady, informed space for your healing.
Good support should reduce pressure on your system, not add more to carry.

Real progress often begins when you reach the point where doing it alone no longer feels workable. Healing isn’t a quick fix; it’s a gradual process of curiosity, discovery, and small, steady changes.

One of the things I see frequently is the desire to just “get the protocol”, like a gut-healing protocol, for example. While a protocol can help, it’s only one piece of the puzzle. Your journey is unique, and the factors affecting your health are deeply interwoven. This is why professional oversight is so important, to ensure the protocol aligns with your specific needs and is adjusted as you move forward.
Often, stabilising the system comes before optimising anything.

It can be liberating to let go of the notion that you should be able to figure it out on your own. I’ve spent years studying, and continue to do so as part of my ongoing professional development. This stuff is complex. If it were simple, I wouldn’t have a job. True transformation happens when we acknowledge the complexities of our bodies and commit to the long-term process with openness and patience. When we allow ourselves to step out of self-reliance and accept support, we unlock the potential for real healing.

Takeaway Tips

Sit with Your Situation

What is it costing you to feel stuck in this place? How long have you been here?
What might be getting in the way of improvement?
If you keep going like this, where will it take you?
If you truly could do this alone, wouldn’t you have already?
What will it take for you to take the next step?
Ask yourself: What are you waiting for?

Patience & Compassion

Healing isn’t a quick fix. Be kind to yourself and acknowledge that change takes time. It’s about small, consistent steps. Understand that you’re here because of years of challenges, and unwinding the complexity of your health won’t happen overnight. Healing is a process. Be compassionate with yourself and where you are.
Symptoms often reflect capacity, not failure.

Explore Professional Support

It’s okay to ask for help. Many qualified nutritionists offer free discovery calls, so take advantage of this opportunity to gain clarity on your situation. Professional support helps shed light on the complexities of your health, allowing you to make informed decisions and move forward with confidence. No pressure, no commitment, just support when you’re ready.
